Webmail can’t attach files?
This may be for several reasons. We’ll try and explain the underlying issues below, and how to solve them.
If webmail can’t attach files, we assume that you’ve already checked if webmail CAN upload files and it DOES work. There is nothing wrong with your webspace or account access at all, so don’t worry about that.
If webmail can’t attach files, it means that webmail is either trying to upload the file into the wrong webspace directory, or webmail just cannot handle certain kinds of extensions/types of files.
Here are some possible reasons why webmail won’t allow you to attach files:
1) The web server does not allow webmail to upload files.
2) Webmail is not given enough file space to save the file where webmail wants it
3) Your web server has run out of web space due to overuse, or webmail is trying to upload too many files at once
4) You are trying to attach a type of file webmail cannot handle.
5) Your web space may be free webspace, and webmail is limited to a certain file size that it can upload at once, compared to web spaces that have bigger webmail or FTP limits.
6) You are trying to attach a zip file as per the above point, but zipped files must be unzipped before webmail can process them.
1) The web server does not allow webmail to upload files.
You might have web space with a web server where webmails are disabled from uploading files, or webmail has a specific directory it must be in when it’s going to upload files.
Most web hosting companies do not disable webmail uploading files, but some Webhosting companies cut costs by having reduced web servers where webmails are given specific webspace directories to upload their files.
If this is the case for your Webhosting company, you can try and fix the problem by contacting them directly (most likely via email) to see if they can make webmail use a different webspace directory.
2) Webmail is not given enough web space to save the file where webmail wants it.
If your web hosting company has increased the webmail and/or FTP limits, then this may be why webmail cannot attach files. Some web hosting companies only increase webmail limits when asked, but some web hosting companies increase webmail limits for all webspace users.
It is possible that with increased webmail and FTP limits, webmail may be too big to attach files!
If this is the case with your Webhosting company, you can try and fix the problem by contacting them directly (most likely via email) to see if webmail can upload files to web space directories with bigger webmail and FTP limits.
3) Your web server has run out of web space due to overuse, or webmail is trying to upload too many files at once
If you’ve made sure that webmail can indeed upload files, then webmail may have hit webspace limits.
For example, webmail may have been sent too many files at once from another webmail and/or FTP account and web server webspace limits were reached (this is particularly common if the website you’re trying to upload files to belongs to a hosting company).
