It started as an internet service provider and now offers a web-based email client with many features, including a calendar, contact manager, and collaboration tools. 1. What is Liverpool Webmail?
Liverpool Webmail is Liverpool University’s web-based email client that allows students, staff, and faculty to access their Liverpool email through the internet. Liverpool Webmail has many features including an address book, calendar, collaboration tools (“Talk”) for instant messaging between users on Liverpool Webmail, and file storage.
Liverpool Webmail also allows users to create aliases for their Liverpool email address that can alias to other Liverpool or non-Liverpool accounts. Liverpool also provides a POP3/IMAP server where Liverpool Webmail messages are stored until they are downloaded to the Liverpool account.
Liverpool offers many different ways for students, staff, and faculty to sign up and gain Liverpool Webmail access. Liverpool Webmail is included as part of your Liverpool University email account.
Liverpool offers two different ways for students to receive their Liverpool account:
1) Computer-based training, or 2) Ableton-based training. Liverpool IT Services recommends that all students follow the computer-based course because it provides Liverpool Webmail access without Liverpool’s VPN. Liverpool also offers Liverpool Webmail accounts to staff and faculty members, but Liverpool recommends that they use the Ableton-based training course because it provides Liverpool Webmail access while Liverpool’s VPN is active (VPN required for wireless internet off campus).
Liverpool uses Blackboard Learn as their online learning platform for computer-based Liverpool Webmail training courses. Liverpool also allows students to download a copy of the virtual machine so they can train offline on their computers.
2. How to sign up for an account?
Step 1) Liverpool Webmail requires a .edu email address. Liverpool provides Liverpool email addresses to all Liverpool students, staff, and faculty members. Liverpool also allows students to alias their Liverpool account to non-Liverpool email accounts.
Liverpool IT Services recommends that students use Liverpool’s provided webmail address because it is the only way Liverpool offers access without Liverpool’s VPN ( Liverpool requires Liverpool’s VPN for Liverpool Webmail off campus).
Liverpool does not allow users to alias Liverpool accounts to third-party email providers such as Gmail, Yahoo, etc. Liverpool also does not allow students from other institutions to use Liverpool Webmail.
Step 2) Liverpool Webmail is a service that comes included with your Liverpool account. Please go to Liverpool.edu and log in with your Liverpool account ( Liverpool recommends students log in through Liverpool’s VPN).
Once logged in, Liverpool will list all Liverpool services you are currently signed up for under the “My Services” tab. Liverpool Webmail is listed as an option under this tab. Liverpool does not allow users to sign up directly for Liverpool accounts.
