Bell Webmail App.

Bell Webmail App.

(A.K.A. Webmail, Email app), is the application that gives users access to their email account(s) hosted by Bell Canada (and other service providers). It’s an official Bell product; it’s free and very simple to use since you don’t have to bother with the technical aspects of the different protocols behind POP3, IMAP, and SMTP or with the server addresses.

The entire configuration is as simple as entering your email address then your password.

I discovered this app. back in 2010 when I was looking for a way to access my Bell webmail account from my BlackBerry smartphone (Bell Mobility). It came out officially on Feb 14, 2010, as part of Bell’s Mobile App. Suite, which contained several services, such as: finding a Sim card balance, checking your data usage from the phone, forwarding your SMS text messages to another email address or Twitter account …

The suite also included another webmail app for personal computers (Windows and Mac), so it didn’t take long for the Android version to come out.

It’s worth noting that you can access Bell webmail on any device through your web browser at: https://www.bell.ca/bwebmaildotcom/en/.

So why download the app? Well, first you don’t need an internet connection (WiFi or 3G) to use it which is great if you don’t want your ISP to track your activity (I already wrote about the risks of using an ISP webmail here ).

The second advantage is that, unlike other mobile email clients, this app. works very well with smartphones because it has big buttons and the interface was designed specifically for mobile devices (I don’t even think it’s possible to use this app. on a tablet so far).

It also shows you your messages as soon as you log in, without the need of downloading them first (which is good for those who have limited storage space on their device). And finally, you can access your emails offline and read them whenever you want (you can even choose to save them on your device so you can read them later when you don’t have an internet connection).

Last but not least, the app. is free and it doesn’t seem to need any special access to other applications or files, like some other apps. do. Plus, it’s compatible with Android versions 4.1 and up, which is great because the majority of people have a smartphone with this version or a more recent one.

So, if you’re looking for a simple app. that lets you access your email account from your phone without limiting you to specific protocols or servers, don’t hesitate to try it out!
